DOES GROWTH BENEFIT ONE GROUP BY TAKING FROM ANOTHER?

Developers do not pay all of required infrastructure costs nor compensate losers. This paper summarises philosophies and criteria for government to regulate approval of development projects.
GROWTH BENEFITS AND COSTS

IDEAS ABOUT GROWTH
How important is growth and for who? Why is pandering to the construction industry based on a fallacy?
Can there be growth without the GNP? How attractive is a steady state economy?
Construction growth

OZ MUST CUT THE GORDIAN KNOT
The fabric of our society is being brutally ripped apart. I hold the political parties responsible.
Cutting the Gordian knot

SOCIAL GREGORY THESIS
Tolerance of asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants is reduced when standardisation of ‘Australian’   values grows e.g. proliferation of national immigration policies and national education curricula.
Social Gregory Thesis

NATIONAL CURRICULUM NONSENSE
Promoting school autonomy with a uniform curriculum is nonsense, as explained in a reply to the Minister for Education’s letter 17/10/14.
National Curriculum AlienationLIMITS TO CITY GROWTH – BUS VS SUBWAY TRANSPORT MODEL
An analogue model is demonstrated tackling Brisbane City issues. Transport hubs for buses are considered. A proposal to cap population, land, water, energy, concrete and road base demand growth is investigated.
Each additional person on average takes 0.17 hectares of land from food production. The model is user friendly for adaptation to local conditions.
Brisbane transport model

THE PSYCHE LAWS
An analogy from physics helps relate ego, superego, id, stress and psychic energy. Example problems and practice problems are presented with answers. Whereas psychological variables are more complex than physical variables, this model provides a logical synthesis able to be tested.
THE PSYCHE LAWS

NATIONAL COMMUNICATION SERVICE
A vision of communication care from birth to death  is proposed. Online voting in 6-10 years from 2013 will do away with the outdated and undemocratic systems of representation that alienate citizens at election time. An agenda for government to reform itself and use the new communication technology to empower voters with frequent voting in elections, referendums and plebiscites, as the cornerstone of the new society envisioned.

INTERVIEW WITH DR CHRIS SARRA
In an interview with the ABC’s Paul Barclay, Dr Sarra explained his successful philosophy for schooling Aboriginal students. This has been interpreted hear as ‘selfaltruism’, a philosophy for all Australians.

INTERVIEW WITH UNCLE ALBERT HOLT
Aborigines are expected to have a leading national role as stewards of resources and providing the President of a parliamentary republic.

BASICS OF CARING FOR THE BOAT PEOPLE
Central government is preventing boat people being stopped by neighbours such as Indonesia;
Immigration should be under local authority control.

WHO IS MOST TRUSTING AND WHO IS MOST COMMITTED?
What is “commitment”, in say a new marriage situation. What is “trust”? How is trust affected by making commitments? Which commitments are best for this and which worst?
CONCLUSIONS (4)
1. Trust is proportional to  the amount of commitment applied over time.
COMMITMENT AND TRUST

AUSTRALIA SELECTS NON-KIN FOR ENERGY EMPIRE?
Australian governments are selecting against carbon and uranium energy technologies with illogical alternatives, hidden gerrymandering and double standards which give more attention to Kiribati islanders than to Australians. This is disloyal. Partisan interests should be excluded from energy planning which should be done by experienced but unaffiliated chemical engineers rewarded for their selfaltruism. Australia’s world role can be to reduce materialism and increase human services, becoming a quarry importing manufactured goods from its Energy Empire. This outlook is explained in the following 2-page report.
Non-kin selection

HOW TO LIVE LONGER
If people turn off conscious thought and have an external focus, they achieve a more automatic type of control. They experience less mental strain, with a lower heart rate and shallower breathing. I suspect that a fourth key feature of “flow” is slower aging, by Einsteinian logic. The science of “flow” is summarised in the following paper but scroll down to the proof of slower aging in my earlier paper  “relativity, aging and happiness”.
Living smarter longer

WIVENHOE DAM FLOODED BRISBANE IN JANUARY 2011
It was built to mitigate such flooding. The peak flood level at West End Ferry was about 200mm below the level in 1974. This is convenient for calibrating a numerical model to be used for future predictions. Brisbane’s flood management and water supply authorities have a conflict of interest that should be appointed separately and left to engineers and scientists to resolve. The situation is explained in a powerpoint presentation with photos of flood.

COAL SEAM GAS BONANZA?
There is heated argument between Queensland’s Coal Seam Gas (CSG)companies and landholders at or near sites of projects in the Surat Basin coalfield area.  Publicity often presents ill-informed opinion. This paper presents basic information required to understand CSG technology and project economics.

JOBS AIN’T JOBS
By informing, taxing and banning techniques that create demand that does not contribute to human welfare, jobs can be made to contribute to society, increasing task engagement, improving health, reducing staffing problems and improving civil society. Retraining can prevent unemployment from increasing. Employment must be unhitched from corporate material hype.
Jobs ain’t jobs!

AUTHENTICITY IN AUSTRALIA
When immigration leads to intolerance, is the concept of an authentic culture helpful? In Australia, only Aboriginal culture is truly authentic. Genetic authenticity of the individual would be diluted away in a few generations but authentic behaviour may keep going much longer. Authentic religion may have to compromise but the authentic culture of science and engineering must resist manipulation by politicians.

COLLABORATION LOSS TO GPS
GPS car navigation systems, such as Tom Tom and Garmin, have undermined driver-navigator partnerships applied in effective planning of house purchase, moving home, having babies and school education. Voice Actionscript systems are causing a decline in businesses’ strategic planning information. Interactive planning processes need to be taught in schools.

MINING TAX DEBATE
Gillard, why not a permanent mining tax that exempts sustainable mines and develops resources for busts and depletion?Taxation of unsustainable mines will not kill the goose that lays the golden egg but will euthanize mines that are not viable.

Mining Tax Debate

NUCLEAR DEBATE
Generations of Australian school students have been indoctrinated about the insidious dangers of nuclear power. Scientific evidence and knowledge shows that this is based on irrational fears. The position today can be summed up by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power compared with fossil fuels. Appendix 1shows that nuclear power may have advantages even in Australia where coal is cheap. Nevertheless it will take more than my blog to dismiss these fears and the rest of this paper assumes that Australia would not use uranium in the near future.

SELFALTRUISM EXPLAINED
There is a compromise; selfaltruism. People living in devolved communes will be able to buy at variable prices from a limited range of essential goods, decided by the commune. They will spend their share of mineral profits on locally agreed needs.

Selfaltruisminpractice

SELFALTRUISM PHILOSOPHY
Is it in our future to be independent individuals or social collectivists? Is there a compromise between Ayn Rand’s rational selfishness and the communist vision? This is addressed in my novel based on the considerations discussed in this paper giving selfaltruism as the solution for Australians.

Selfaltruism philosophy

BALANCE IN RELATIONSHIPS
some behavioural principles by analogy.
When should a partner have to give up their career position to relocate, when their partner is transferred? When a couple relocate, should they live midway between their job locations? How much say should each have concerning schooling for their children? Questions such as these can be answered by analysing the inertia in each situation and calculating compromise positions that take account of each partner’s relevant resources…

TWO ISLAND ECONOMY
Australia may be able to barter her raw materials
overseas for enough essential goods and services
for the economy to switch to growth of non-material
services.

HOW TO STAY YOUNGER
When a person responds to others in reflex time but with more thought, time slows down for them and they age more slowly and more happily relative to less alert people.

It is assumed that the neuro-chemistry of the pathways of the central nervous system limit responses to a maximum speed. It is argued by analogy with Einstein’s thought experiment, showing time slowed down for a person travelling near the speed of light, that time is similarly slowed for an alert consciousness, responding thoughtfully to a stimulus, compared with a reflex response.

High IQ is associated with faster mental processing speed (Gottfredson, Linda. New Scientist, 2 July 2011,piv). It is reasonable to expect that as the complex cerebral and technological abilities associated with higher human IQ have evolved, these have not subtracted from simple stimulus response ability that safeguards them from hazards in their environment. If they had, the higher abilities would have been selected against and would never have survived. It seems unlikely that quickness in simple responses would have been sacrificed to gain complex thought.

When people are engaged in their favourite pastimes, or in activities such as Zen, their alertness may be aroused but they are less aware of time passing. This could be a meditative state. Supposing that the reaction times of a person to a simple stimulus both before and during such meditation could be the same. Then assuming that when so preoccupied the pathway from sensor to motor response would have a longer neural pathway, because the most direct routes would already be in use and the matter would be diverted into a less direct pathway with additional distance d and then brought back a distance d to complete the response in the same time.

Therefore, logically, time passes more slowly in the meditating person if these requirements are to be met. If the neural pathway is longer but the speed is already at a maximum, time must slow down. It is deduced from the above that meditation processes may run slower than real time and so will physiological processes that change the condition of the body and mind. The meditating person will age less rapidly than an identical twin who does not meditate.

This finding has implications for lifestyles, relationships and happiness. A full explanation is given in the paper attached: Relativity, Aging and Happiness, Martin Knox, 2011.
Relativity, Ageing and Happiness

End

  1. Where can I get the novel from? I must read it tonight!!

  2. Intrigued and curious

If the trend is for many to lodge their vote online for every issue that arises, won’t this result in voting issues which represent the lowest common denominator? Won’t this mean that visionary leadership that takes far-sighted decisions for the common good will essentially disappear??

  3. My analysis applies at an aggregate level, rather than at the individual level of your examples of human behaviour. Such an analysis is applied at the level of the share market, when we say that the market index increases when profits increase. The fact that shares behave individually in complex and contrary ways does not subtract from the hypothesis, which is about average behaviour. I wrote this paper because I was getting married and I needed to know a starting point for how to build up trust. After arriving at my findings, I humbly accepted that both the bride and I needed to make commitments. Feeling is alien to my personality type, which is Mayer Briggs type INTJ. Nevertheless, I realized that it was important to the bride and tried to convey that besides making commitments.Just because living is irrational, disloyal and accident-filled doesn’t mean that some of us wouldn’t prefer to have as much order in relationships as we do when we are travelling in road traffic. You can stay in your bath of shit. I want relationships that are objective to underpin my life of self-fulfilment and meditation.Having said that, thank you for your comment. I hope that life will treat you with no more than average savagery.
